BLOODBORNE PATHOGEN TECHNICIAN

STATUS OF ASSIGNMENT:
There are part-time contingency positions available in the North Bay and Bay Area. We are seeking enthusiastic, proactive, career-oriented individuals, to fit into a pool of technicians, who have transferable job skills and the demonstrated ability to perform pertinent job functions as field technicians. Asepsis Technology is an "At Will" employer. Case assignments will be made on an as needed basis. Hours of work will vary. Selection from the contingency pool will be made at random. Asepsis Technology will work with qualified candidates to schedule call outs to accommodate academic or other career objectives. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, responds, assesses, contains, mitigates, disinfects, abates and packages trauma scene waste for disposal; identifies, minimizes and segregates the full spectrum of waste found at trauma scenes; consoles grief stricken families, friends or business owners involved in the crisis scene process while protecting their personal property; performs other related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Responds in routine, as well as exigent circumstances to various trauma scenes, meets
with families, friends or business owners who have experienced traumatic emotional
shock and are faced with a biohazardous waste spill. Interacts in business situations
as a crisis service provider, demonstrates superior tolerance and stamina under extreme
emotional and physically repulsive situations, while also demonstrating sensitivity as an
interim trauma intervention counselor; identifies, assesses and contains various forms of
biohazardous waste spills; performs mitigation, disinfection and waste abatement tasks.
works while dressed in confining clothing, respiratory and other protective and restrictive
equipment; and, in conjunction with other company staff, works as a team player in a
cooperative, goal-oriented environment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from HS AND :(2) two years experience with
a law enforcement agency or emergency service capacity, in a medical or health care
profession, dealing with OSHA/Cal OSHA or MWMA standards, aseptic protocol or
sterile environment skills; OR, a Bachelor's Degree or current enrollment in a
Baccalaureate Degree Program or Vocational Certificate Program in the disciplines of
medicine, nursing, mortuary sciences, administration of justice, hazardous waste
management, environmental engineering, or related technologies. Access to a truck is
highly desirable.

In order for consideration, a candidate must submit:
- a cover letter focusing on qualifications, transferable job skills, education and work experience;
- a completed Asepsis Technology employment application, W-4 and I-9;
- a current resume;
- a copy of transcripts, certificates, diplomas or job evaluations evidence of ability to perform pertinent job functions;
- a copy of a clean DMV record and proof of insurance
SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Completed applications will be reviewed and applicants will be invited for an interview
on the basis of appraisal of qualifications documented by the materials submitted.
Applicants will be invited to view a pre-employment offer introductory waste abatement
exercise. Asepsis Technology regrets that the applicant cannot be reimbursed for any
expenses related to the application and interview process. All materials submitted
become the property of Asepsis Technology and will not be returned.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Pre-employment Drug Test;
- In accordance with Federal law, all employees must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, birth certificate or eligibility to work in the U.S;
- Take and pass a pre-employment physical examination, including HIV baseline, TB testing and HBV vaccine, within 30 days of employment;
- Qualify for and comply with any future requirements which may amend SB 1034 or the MWMA of the California Health and Safety Code.
